Numerous groups – from companies to public institutions – use this day to highlight the special needs of young people with life-limiting illnesses. Löwenherz, the local children's hospice support center, has played a significant role in organizing the event.
Tobias Capelle from Löwenherz and Carina Poßberg from SONne lead the initiative. Both emphasize the need to raise public awareness and provide more support for affected families. Capelle, who also coordinates the outpatient hospice care for a association of the St.-Marien-Gemeinde in Querum, presented a new leadership team on 22 January 2026. Participants are invited to bring their own lanterns. The procession offers the community the opportunity to show solidarity and remember children who require palliative medical care.
The event brings an often overlooked topic into the spotlight: children's hospice care. By gathering at the Schloss-Arkaden, the organizers hope to foster understanding for the concerns of families and encourage more engagement. The procession is open to anyone who wishes to participate.
